Today, in Cuenca, I woke up quite hungry, so I went to the market to find something to eat. I was really tempted by the pig´s head and pig tripe pictured here, but I would have had to brought them back to the hotel, and would have had to find my own silverware. It would have been just too much of a hassle. Maybe if I get a hostal with a kitchen.

Well, Baños had a lot of great restaurants with food from around the world. So I was eating pasta, and various asian dishes. I also drink a lot of various homemade fruit juices.

In the more traditional towns I eat chicken and rice or chicken and some kind of potato. Pizza is my mainstay when I get sick of the local fare.

Phil,

I like the blog a lot--I hope you're able to keep it up.

Try getting someone to take a picture of you once in a while. But wait until you're not in front of a wagon full of intestines.

So, I'll make a comment here and there, but in any case, see you in a month & a half. Speaking of which, check email...

Hi Phil - am enjoying your diary very much - put some pictures of you once in awhile. What are the people like? have you been well received? Have you made friends? What do they think of Americans? Ever felt in danger or a little uneasy? Travel safe !! Rob G.

Glad you like the blog. Overall, the ecuatorianos are quite nice to the tourists. I have asked for assistance many times, and have always been been given good directions/advice. The fact that I speak spanish helps a lot and garners a lot more respect. I promise to post so many pics of me when I get back from Galapagos, that you will ask me not to post any more. I´ve never felt in any kind of danger yet, but I never fully let my guard down.
